Have you performed a cylinder compression test on the engine yet? If not I'd start there. Post your results and I will interpret them for you. Replaced the spark plugs/wires yet? I usually test spark plug wires before replacing but since there is a nice aftermarket for an 87-92 supra it would be worthwhile to just upgrade.
Order the Toyota Supra Repair Manual from your local Toyota dealership, should be around $100. Well worth every penny.
