Default re-tap and save the old one.

If its not a total loss you could try to just re-tap the threads. Take the bolt or plug to your local home depot or other hardware store and for less that 10 dollars you could probably find the size you need without buying a whole tap and die set. Heli coils are best reserved for a machine shop to do, they have to drill the old threads completely and insert the coil. Its not a job to be done by someone without the proper tools. There will probably be metal shavings from the drilling which I don't know how you could keep them out of the trannie completely so just re-tap and you should be ok. Not sure which trannie your talking about though. If its the manual which I'm familiar with then you must be talking about the plug on the side where you check the level. It wouldn't hurt to run the threads of the plug/bolt through a die either cause there could be some damage from the trannie threads.
