Default Wierd tail light issue! HELP!

so i have a 86.5 supra and i am halfway through switching to the 89+ tails. ever since i hooked the lights up, my brake lights stay on constantly and my third tail light as well. then i saw some smoke coming from the "lamp failure" yellow box under my left tail. what the hell is going on?

From what I've read (haven't done the swap myself, although I would in a heartbeat if I found some 89+ taillights) you also need to swap your lamp failure box as well. I think it's white, but it's been awhile since I've read a tread on the subject.

so i switched to the white box today and same issue. all brake lights stay on when i turn my lights on. and i still get tail lamp failure light on. also i cut the wires for the two side lights and twisted them together temporarily. will this make a difference? what going on with this crazy thing? if anyone lives around my area it would help a ton if they could come look at it
